Thanks, I knew it was somewhere popular. Now I can re-read the rest.
This would probably be Scout by the Warlord on SOLgnume wrote:im looking for a story i read few years ago. i dont remember the name or the name of the author. but i think it was posted on SOL
here what i remember :
the story is about young man who made an AI he gets and female android body for the AI from his older brother.
his grand father invented spider bots and nanites that can repair and build anything.
he goes on to experiment creating power sources (? power crystals ?) under the influences of different stars (?)
his home government (? empire ?) gets attacked by an enemy to escape he uses the new power source he created.
the AI and the android uses the nanites to upgrade his body so its similar to the androids body partially to save his life.
he lands/crashes on earth.
ill be thankful if some one can remember the story.
or run a story text search on storiesonline for : "spider bots" or "spider bot" im pretty sure one of those phrases appeared in the story.
thanks.
thats not it. and my query was answered long ago.gcomyn wrote:

Ir's unfinished, and probably won't be, since the last update was in 2005.

Its part of Clifford D. Simak's novel, Time and Again. Not a major part, it appears a good ways into the story, but I just took the book off the shelf and skimmed through until I found it, and its there.Griffinmane wrote:I read a story I thought was by Frederick Pohl, but I can't find it on his bibliography. It was a sci-fi story about time travel. A guy who finds a letter in his attic in a trunk and it is addressed to him and has the current date to open. It has an odd tool in it and a letter from his great grandfather( or greater). He describes how one day in one of his fields he finds a guy working on a saucer. He talks to him for a while and leaves him to his work.
He returns latter and find the saucer gone and the tool with some blood on it. A few days later some clothes are stolen, and another guy shows up with his head bandaged. He works for the grandfather for 10 years or so and then disappears. The grandsons name is mentioned in their last conversation and that the tool should be left to him on a certain date.
The grandson ends up taking over another time traveling ship, and for some reason wants answers from one of the people who he got it from. he decides to confront the guy in the latter. He travels back a day before his grandfather finds the stranger and watches the sequence take place. Then using the tool sneaks up on the guy. I forget why but the grandson is knocked out with the tool and wakes up later to find the guy gone.
He goes back to his own ship which he submerged in the nearby river, and finds the entrance is covered by silt and he is unable to re-enter.
He ends up being the guy working for his grandfather, and leaves when someone is sent back to retrieve him.
Any ideas?
Working with the landing page, I searched the Wayback Machine, and this is the most recent pre-purge page http://web.archive.org/web/201111160050 ... rg/~artie/, so Artie's stories can still be found. Yay!GBLW wrote:Your right, I missed that, sorry about that. I also know it caused a bit of a squabble amongst his fans, but he had his reasons for doing it. I enjoyed his slightly warped sense of humour and I loved some of his stories - "Bodega" was a favourite.samuelmichaels wrote:Not quite. Artie removed his HTML pages (except the landing page), but all the stories are still there in Epub, PDF or text formats. Including The Golden Mule and The Golden Mule Returns.
EDIT: his landing page is at asstr.org/~artie.

It was not this one. In the story I am looking for the pack was multi-race. They even added a were-crocodile or alligator. But thank you
