I read a story I thought was by Frederick Pohl, but I can't find it on his bibliography. It was a sci-fi story about time travel. A guy who finds a letter in his attic in a trunk and it is addressed to him and has the current date to open. It has an odd tool in it and a letter from his great grandfather( or greater). He describes how one day in one of his fields he finds a guy working on a saucer. He talks to him for a while and leaves him to his work.

He returns latter and find the saucer gone and the tool with some blood on it. A few days later some clothes are stolen, and another guy shows up with his head bandaged. He works for the grandfather for 10 years or so and then disappears. The grandsons name is mentioned in their last conversation and that the tool should be left to him on a certain date.

The grandson ends up taking over another time traveling ship, and for some reason wants answers from one of the people who he got it from. he decides to confront the guy in the latter. He travels back a day before his grandfather finds the stranger and watches the sequence take place. Then using the tool sneaks up on the guy. I forget why but the grandson is knocked out with the tool and wakes up later to find the guy gone.

He goes back to his own ship which he submerged in the nearby river, and finds the entrance is covered by silt and he is unable to re-enter.

He ends up being the guy working for his grandfather, and leaves when someone is sent back to retrieve him.

Any ideas?

Looking for a complete copy of http://web.archive.org/web/200801171501 ... fonseyrie/.

Found it mentioned in the first "Links to Good Reading" thread, read the first chapter, and it sounds good but a lot of others are missing.

Thanks!

im looking for a story i read few years ago. i dont remember the name or the name of the author. but i think it was posted on SOL
here what i remember :
the story is about young man who made an AI he gets and female android body for the AI from his older brother.
his grand father invented spider bots and nanites that can repair and build anything.
he goes on to experiment creating power sources (? power crystals ?) under the influences of different stars (?)
his home government (? empire ?) gets attacked by an enemy to escape he uses the new power source he created.
the AI and the android uses the nanites to upgrade his body so its similar to the androids body partially to save his life.
he lands/crashes on earth.

ill be thankful if some one can remember the story.
or run a story text search on storiesonline for : "spider bots" or "spider bot" im pretty sure one of those phrases appeared in the story.
thanks.

I am not sure Pathfinder is what gnume is looking for. Some of the elements seem to match a couple of SOL stories by John Wales, perhaps Leefstic, Tandra or Space.
None are a perfect match, though.

I haven't ever read Pathfinder, but the first couple elements are definitely Pathfinder. The thing about power crystals and escaping using the dimensions where power crystals were created was in Tandra, but since I haven't read Pathfinder no idea if that was used in it as well or not.

in Tandra crystals are used as processor and computer cores not power

I was just recently remembering a story I read online, I think it was on EWP.org, Storm King or Island King or something like that. It was set in a feudalistic society' in our future. The main character is a mercenary from some prestigious warriors academy, and ends up as a king of some Islands.

On the way his aunt and cousin become his slaves, and this is enforced by some magic/technology necklace.

Anyone know if there is still an online copy of this somewhere?

Sea King, by Colt45, available at Stories Online. http://storiesonline.net/s/44463

This is the first of a very good series of stories.

It's been forever since I read Sea King, I think it was when colt started the Mayhem series. Colt45 hasn't done anything new since early 2012 though, has he? Colt45's writing is pretty good. Invid Fan has a similar style if you want to check out the Bells series: http://storiesonline.net/library/show_series.php?id=985

I can't remeber for sure but if you go back through the lost and found and liks to good reading posts here on the forum.

It's extremly possiable that is where those storys started or were crossposted to that site .......years and years ago.
the author could have been one of the admins there long ago.

I just can't remeber for sure. :(

Shadowhawk was more into these types of storys and sites then i was but i haven't seen a post from him in a while

The alternate is still there and it works for me: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1097014/gryphan.rar

Just download it and save it to file, then open "A Time of Heroes" at your convenience!

(Otherwise you have to e-mail cs long (the author) and wait for a return of the posting.)
