(rewritten to sound less terse)

There's a whole lot of other stuff to get done first, but it's on the list of things to consider :)

Update -- sennadar.com is now serving content from sennadar.plebian.net.

This means the staging site should now be available.
http://staging.sennadar.com/

Note: This is only a draft that I set up in ~3-4 hours last night. It's in no way final, and if people don't like it, it'll go/change/etc.

No, there's no books online on the staging site yet, and apart from a few tabs at the top, there's no customisation or branding.

It's currently running:
* Wordpress 2.0.x
* K2 0.9 Theme/Configuration thingy.
* WP-Cache plugin (for caching pages)

It has (for me, atleast) a tendancy to deliver blank pages right after a change, or just not respond now and then... this could be an issue with my work PC though, since it's not been having a great time recently.

Comments? Suggestions?

Spec8472 wrote:ok, as part of the changover - I'm planning to give the site a bit of a makeover.

If someone wants to volunteer to clean up the HTML (online) versions of the books, please give me a shout.

Basicly, what is needed, is:

* Clean HTML - no remnants from MS Word conversions, nothing apart from bold, italics, underline and other structural formatting.

* Single reference to a CSS style (no in-built styles).

I'm setting up a demo copy of the proposed site now, and as soon as the DNS information has been propogated, everyone can take a look.

For reference, I'm using Wordpress as the base, with K2 as the style.
For users, It's clean, clear, and readable.
For admins, it's pretty easy to update and maintain.

I could go for a fully-fledged CMS (like, say Joomla) but I think that's probably overkill at the moment.
Spec,

I'd be willing to clean up the HTML and make it W3C complaint. Let me know. :)

I like it in a way, a bit of emphasis on the tabs, and some graphics.
I would volunteer for a design if you would want it, but at moment I have a few other designs to make.

Yes, please! :)

I've changed the background colour of the tabs a little.

I'm not exactly a design genius (not even a passingly okay designer), so I'll leave to others better qualified for better styling/graphics.

If you'd like to contribute css/graphics/etc - please do.

Ok. I'll get on it later today. Unless you or Fel has a better idea, I'll just pull the source code from the plebian site. How do you want me to deliver them back to you?

Edit/

And for the colors and such, any thoughts? I can do the CSS file, or do you have one already set up?

One more question, what's the name of your CSS file, and where is it?

Thanks

Thanks -- no great rush though :)
You can upload it here if thats OK...

Feel free to do a CSS for it, I havn't organised anything yet.
If you do, I'd prefer using just element styling (p, body, etc), rather than adding classes to the document, if that's at all possible.

The style should be "chapter.css" (literal, not "1.css", "2.css", etc) in the current directory, I'll set up a redirect so it has just one actual file.

Thanks again, btw... much appreciated.

Not a problem. I had already done it on my machine just to have something to work with. As far as the reformat, I got chapter 1 done today. Barring unforseen difficulties, I should be able to do about a chapter a day.

Just one question, I guess for Fel as well, since they're his books: Any special requests for colors, or do you want what we've had on the Plebian site for a while--the black text on the kind of tan background?

Let me know.

Spec, you just want it uploaded to the forum, correct?

Sure, just upload a zip file of the HTML when you've finished.

Spec,

When you get ready to add file links to the new website. Can you include Mobipocket files. That is what I use for my pda reading. If you want you can use the ones that I posted here...

http://www.weavespinner.net/Worlds%20of%20Fel.htm

I know they are not perfect. (I have no idea what a css page does) But, it is what I have worked up with my limited (i.e. zero) knowledge of html. Also, I do not have access to a pdf writer now. So I will not be able to update the pdf files there.

Well, I did some research, and Mobipocket doesn't support Macs, so I'm out of luck there. However, Macs do come with PDF creation ability. If enough poeple need it, I could probably do the PDF at the same time as I do the HTML version.

Let me know.

I hate to look like a spammer, but this website has a free pdf maker if you don't mind ads.

The new site looks interesting too, btw.
