No mention of magnetic anti MPAC shields in book 5 either, the only shields that are resistant to MPACs are the Teryon shields but as was mentioned in book 1 they are only resistant to MPACs and will eventually fail under a sustained barrage.

The magnetic shields describe by Tim in book 1 should in theory be more resistant to MPACs and other magnetically contained energy weapons or electrically charged particle weapons than Teryon weapons, at least as was described.

99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer.
Take one down and pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall.

98 bottles of beer on the wall, 98 bottles of beer.
Take one down and pass it around, 97 bottles of beer on the wall.

97 bottles of beer on the wall, 97 bottles of beer.
Take one down and pass it around, 96 bottles of beer on the wall.

96 bottles of beer on the wall, 96 bottles of beer.
Take one down and pass it around, 95 bottles of beer on the wall.

95 bottles of beer on the wall, 95 bottles of beer.
Take one down and pass it around, 94 bottles of beer on the wall.

THese is this idea called plasma windows/ plasma shields, where they create a magnetic field around a ship and fill it with a type of plasma. That wasy the incoming energy/ projectiles are damaged, degraded or destroyed by the plasma in its path.

I dont think this counts as spoilers, the books have been out for a while now, and generally people would read them before coming here.

I should return to writing sometime next week. I've not entirely stayed away from writing, however, lol...I did some work on Shifters in a moment of boredom.

On the pokemon front, I've finished the game and now am just going back to catch everything I missed. It was actually fun, and they made it so internet-interactive that it was almost like playing an MMORPG. If this is the template for future 3DS games, then 3DS has a very bright future ahead of it.
